Some 70 years ago several fisher families moved from Madura to Java's Eastern coast because of the perfusion of sea life. During stormy weather, after the nets were mended, they began making handicrafts from the discarded shells. Capiz shells, or Jingle Oysters grow like weeds in the shallow sea beds. The beautiful watery colors and sweet tinkling sound are a wonderful addition to any interior or garden. Zen Wind believes in traditions of craftsmanship, simplicity, harmony, and the use of natural elements. As a member of the Fair Trade Federation they respect the local artisans' lifestyles, traditions, and environment, working with villages to educate in conservation, sustainable development, and organic farming.
